FAQ

How does a legal locum actually work?

A locum is a person who stands in temporarily for someone else of the same profession, and is a term most often associated with doctors.  Arthur Noble Limited meets the need for a temporary government lawyer by either Bronwyn or Patricia sitting in the client’s premises (using the desk and tools of the person who is absent) and undertaking the work normally assigned to the absent staff member or providing cover for the legal team generally.

As there are the two of you, do you really have the capacity?

To date we have both managed contracts for more than one organisation at a time.  Focusing on the legal work without the administration/management responsibilities has produced efficiencies. As there are two of us who work closely together we are able to cover for each other if necessary. If, however, we do not consider we have the capacity to do the work in your timeframe we will not take on work and do a substandard job.

Is there legal stuff you don't do?

Yes – our experience is with Government law and so we do not practice in areas such as family law, conveyancing, banking, media, IT.  Although Bronwyn has appeared throughout the Court structure, Arthur Noble Limited has decided not to have a barrister’s practice.  If, however, you want assistance with preparation for a case, we are able to instruct and assist your barrister.

What do you mean by "project work"?

The combined experience of Patricia and Bronwyn has been with construction projects – land acquisition, obtaining resource consent approvals, procurement, preparing and managing contracts to building finish. We are capable of leading specific projects – review of Privacy Act requirements, developing legislation.

Do you do more than just law?

We are first and foremost lawyers, but we do have management experience and have worked with many disciplines so if requested we able to help with other aspects of projects where there is often a legal cross-over including procurement, peer reviews and drafting discussion papers.
